Zebrawood is an exotic wood native to the Western African countries of Cameroon, and Gabon.
It is a hard wood, with a medium to coarse texture. The Zebra-like appearance is due to the light colored sapwood in contrast with the dark colored grain.
The heartwood is a pale golden yellow, distinct from the paler color of the sapwood and features narrow streaks of dark brown to black (which gives its Zebra-like appearance).
The tree can be 65-130 ft tall (20-40 m).
This wood species is not listed in the CITES Appendices which means it is allowed to be exported, imported, distributed, reproduced and sold without issues.
Zebrawood tends to be fairly expensive.
Common uses include: High-end furniture, veneer, musical instruments, skis and handles.
Zebrawood is used to define various tree species and the wood resulting from them. Zebrawood is distinguishable by its striped figure, creating the Zebra-like appearance.
An interesting fact is that the name Zebrawood originally applied to the wood of Astronium graveolens, a large tree native to Central America. In the 20th century, the most important source of Zebrawood was Microberlinia brazzavillensis, also called zebrano, a tree native to Central Africa. Other sources include Brazilian Astronium fraxinifolium, African Brachystegia spiciformis, Pacific Guettarda speciosa, and Asian Pistacia integerrima.
Very nice gadget for people who live the moment and harmony with nature .
I bought this as a gift for a close friend and she loves it!
